We stopped renting other people’s catalogs
Premium event design is all about the details. The bar that anchors the room. The lounge that invites guests to stay a little longer. The shelving that turns glassware, florals, and candlelight into part of the atmosphere.
For SDPR, the goal was not just to add more furniture. It was to build a collection that planners and clients could not source anywhere else in the region.
Every piece in the new collection is SDPR inventory, not sub-rented. That means more control, better availability, and a stronger ability to support events on our terms. The pieces were selected and commissioned with real event conditions in mind: repeated load-ins, long service hours, flexible layouts, and the level of finish expected at luxury weddings, galas, brand events, private estates, and hospitality-driven celebrations.
The result is a collection that looks designer-grade but works like professional rental inventory should.
Designed at the source
The heart of the story begins with Seth Stern’s sourcing trip to China.
Rather than choosing pieces from a screen or ordering from a standard wholesale catalog, Seth traveled in person to meet with furniture makers, visit workshops, review materials, inspect finishes, and see production quality up close. The trip included time with specialist manufacturers in Hangzhou and Ningbo, along with broader sourcing opportunities connected to China’s furniture and manufacturing network, including the Canton Fair.
That hands-on process matters. Furniture can look great in a photo and still miss the mark in person. Scale, comfort, texture, weight, construction, and finish quality all have to be right, especially when the furniture is being used for high-end events.
Two ateliers. One shared standard.
The collection was developed through relationships with two specialist furniture makers in eastern China, each chosen for a different strength.
One workshop focuses on sculptural seating and architectural bar systems. This is where pieces like the Ghent modular sofa, the Madison oval bar, and the Veranda and Havana collections come into the story. These pieces bring shape, softness, and structure to lounges, cocktail hours, and statement event environments.
The other maker specializes in refined tables, cane details, elm and poplar finishes, and bar programs in natural, white, black, and green washes. This is where collections like Cane, Slat, Coastal Lounge, and the showpiece Deco round bar take shape.
Different makers. Different specialties. One shared SDPR standard.
Built for the way events actually happen
The new collection was not designed only to look beautiful, it was built for events.
That means pieces need to be flexible enough for very different environments: a candlelit ballroom, a Hamptons lawn, a rooftop cocktail party, a corporate lounge, a waterfront wedding, or a private estate dinner. They need to photograph beautifully, but they also need to move efficiently, install cleanly, and hold up from one event to the next.
Several pieces were chosen specifically for that level of versatility.
The Ghent Sofa System uses modular inner curves, outer curves, straight sections, and ottomans to create everything from serpentine lounges to full circles and intimate conversation pods. Its boucle upholstery and sculptural shape give it a soft, modern presence without feeling trendy or disposable.
The Deco Bar and Deco Shelves bring a more dramatic, city-ready look, with black architectural detailing that feels right for skyline events, evening receptions, elevated cocktail service, and candlelit hospitality moments.
The Honeycomb Collection adds texture and quiet drama through carved dimensional surfaces, rounded forms, bar components, shelving, coffee tables, and side tables that can be styled together or separately throughout an event.
The Coastal Lounge, Cane, Slat, Havana, Veranda, and Madison pieces expand the collection even further, giving planners options that range from warm and natural to polished and architectural.
From concept to container to collection
What makes this launch especially exciting is the amount of care behind the scenes.
The process did not stop once pieces were selected. Collections were consolidated, prepared, and shipped in ocean containers to SDPR’s East Coast operation. Once received, each piece is inspected, cataloged, entered into inventory, and prepared for storage and transport.
SDPR is not just thinking about how these pieces look on day one. The team is thinking about how they arrive, how they install, how they are protected, how they are stored, and how they continue performing event after event.
A new design language for SDPR
The Summer 2026 Lounge Collection gives planners, venues, and clients a new way to think about event furniture.
